Today we already spoke about The Guest. Now is turn to talk about another of the Spanish horror games that are being developed right now. Song of Horror had a Kickstarter last year, but it wasn’t sucessful and that left the project hanging on in search of further funding.
After a long wait we finally got good news on that front and the Protocol Games guys sent an email announcing they got the required funding to complete their game and announced a tentative release date for Summer 2017 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
Song of Horror is a horror game that tries at the same time to flash back to the past and forward to the future. While it gets its referents from games like Alone in the Dark the developers are interested into pushing new things into the game, like permadeath for the characters and an extremely branching narrative due to having 16 playable characters with their own stories and depending which one you use and which one makes it out alive the story will be different.
I think it looks interesting, and I am happy to see Protocol Games getting the funding to complete the game. That shows that there is life beyond failed kickstarters.
The release date is still more than one year from now, and game development is a finicky thing, so I image there will be delays but I think this is one to keep an eye on it.
